Bonjour! Welcome to my 12-day blog series, where I will be sharing 24 lessons I've learnt in 2024. I'm excited to dive in and share these insights with you, so do stay through.π |
LESSON NINE
I rarely open WhatsApp groups, especially those with numerous messages. However, one group message caught my attention, and I ended up reading through the entire thread. I found it amusing that everyone all had a thought or two to say to the subject, and I was exposed to various thoughts and opinions. Some were rude, others demure, classy, or spiritual. The messages evoked various emotions -annoyance, smiles, frowns, and even prompted me to reconsider some things.
I have always known this, but this is one of the lessons I had to learn again in 2024: People have their opinions and they are shaped by their mindset.
Our words, tone, questions, and beliefs reflect our values and principles, which are influenced by our upbringing, environment, family, life experiences, and faith. This forms our mental model.
We can not change our upbringing, neither can we choose our family, but we can intentionally build and refine our mental reasoning.
LESSON TEN
On the track field, runners are each placed on different lanes. When they begin the race, they concentrate on their lane and not another person's. Anyone who enters another lane would be disqualified, and if a runner looks elsewhere, there is every possibility that the runner will be distracted.
Just like in the case of the runners, I am also on the field, my life is a race, and I have my lane. My lane is different from my siblings, and it is different from my parents. If it can be different from my blood relatives, how much more different it is from an unrelated blood fellow.
Each person is got there unique path, which should not be compared with another's.
Comparing my life to someone else's is like looking into another runner's lane. It would distract me from my own goals and can lead to feelings of frustration, sadness, and depression.
Instead, I should focus on my own progress. If I feel the need to improve, then I should increase my effort or speed. I should learn from the challenges in my lane, using them as opportunities for growth.
